What to Expect in a Reiki Session
In-person Reiki Session
Here's a general overview of how an in-person Reiki session is conducted:
1. Preparation:
Setting: The session usually takes place in a quiet and peaceful environment. The room may be dimly lit, and calming music may be played to enhance relaxation.
Clothing: The recipient is typically fully clothed, and it's advisable to wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing to promote ease of movement and relaxation.
2. Introduction and Discussion:
Introduction: The practitioner introduces themselves and explains the basic principles of Reiki to the recipient.
Discussion: The practitioner may ask the recipient about any specific concerns, physical or emotional issues, or areas of the body where they are experiencing discomfort. This information helps guide the focus of the session.
3. Body Positioning:
Lying Down or Seated: The recipient is normally lying down on a massage table, or in some cases can be seated in a chair, depending on the client’s preference and comfort.
Hands-on or hands-off: The practitioner normally uses a hands-on approach, placing their hands lightly on or slightly above specific areas of the recipient's body, or they may use a hands-off approach, depending on the recipient's preference.
4. Energy Channeling:
Hand positions: The practitioner follows a set of hand positions, either placing their hands directly on the recipient or hovering them slightly above. These positions cover various energy centers or chakras in the body.
Energy flow: The practitioner channels Reiki energy through their hands, intending to balance and harmonize the recipient's energy.
5. Treatment Duration:
Session length: A typical in-person Reiki session lasts around 45 to 90 minutes, but the duration can vary based on individual preferences and needs.
6. Sensations and Experiences:
Recipient's experience: During the session, recipients may experience various sensations, such as warmth, tingling, or deep relaxation. Some people report emotional releases or insights.
7. Closing the Session:
Feedback: After the session, the practitioner and recipient may discuss their experiences, and the recipient may provide feedback.
Hydration: It's common for the practitioner to encourage the recipient to drink water after the session to help with the energy integration process.
Distant Reiki Session
Here’s what you can generally expect during a distant or absent Reiki session:
1. Setting the intention:
·The practitioner and recipient typically agree on a time for the session (in real time or a future date to receive Reiki).
The recipient may be asked to find a quiet and comfortable space where they won’t be disturbed.
If this is for an absent future date Reiki session, the Reiki healing generally commences when the recipient goes to bed for the evening.
2. Communication:
The practitioner may communicate with the recipient beforehand to gather relevant information or discuss any specific concerns or intentions for the sessions.
3. Preparation: (For real-time distant Reiki session)
The recipient is generally asked to lie down or sit in a comfortable position, similar to an in-person session.
It’s common for the recipient to close their eyes to enhance relaxation and focus.
